At the first antenatal visit, the following blood tests are ordered:

Blood group and antibodies

You will also be offered testing to see if you are a carrier for Cystic Fibrosis.

When will I have an ultrasound during my pregnancy?

Dr Kliman will perform an ultrasound at your initial consultation in his office. This ensures that your dates are accurate and that all looks well with your pregnancy to date.

You will be offered a scan at 12 – 13 weeks gestation to check your risk for having a baby with Down’s Syndrome. Further ultrasounds  at 20 and 34 weeks gestation are also performed to exclude fetal abnormalities and to check the growth and wellbeing of the fetus.

These ultrasounds are performed at a Specialist Ultrasound Centre close to Dr Kliman’s office.

At 28 weeks you will be tested for gestational diabetes (G.C.T) and also have your iron levels rechecked (FBE). If you are a negative blood group, your antibody levels will also be rechecked. A vaginal swab to exclude the presence of Group B Strep is performed at 36 weeks.

How often will I see Dr Kliman during my pregnancy?

After the initial consultation at around 8 - 9 weeks gestation, you will be seen four weekly until 28 weeks. You will then be seen fortnightly until 36 weeks and then weekly until you deliver. This is very general and you will be seen more frequently if necessary.
